interesting. today's horoscope (on yahoo) for aquarius:

If you are feeling stuck in a rut in your life right now, one of the most effective things you can do is let go of any grudges you've been holding -- it will feel like you just attached one hundred helium balloons to your soul. Holding on to memories of how you were wronged isn't going to make things right again. The only way that can possibly happen is if you find some silver lining in that cloud. Move forward, and leave the wrongdoers in your past where they belong.

i think this is especially good advice for those grudges one might be holding against oneself. (for me...the list is legion these days. it's time to heal from this.)

standard disclaimer: i have 0% faith in astrology as a predictive science. at best, it is pseudoscience. however, it is fun to play with, and i like reading my horoscope as a source for pithy, daily bits-o-wisdom. as a scholar, i find it interesting as one of the myriad systems of meaning-making that shape human culture. it gives one something to chew on, as it were, to get the digestive juices of the mind flowing. yeah. it's like a digestive biscuit.

edited to add:
and then there's this article about the optimism center in the brain. i wonder if aerobic exercise improves blood flow to this area...

OK, this is ridiculous and hilarious all at once.

what's my sign, you ask? well. i'm an aquarius. how many accidents have i had in my life? that's a great question. i've had 2. one when i was 18 and a freshman in college. i rear-ended someone during rush hour on u.s. 131 heading into downtown grand rapids. this was shortly after my sister died, FWIW. and one when i was...........hmm........29? not long after i got married (at 28), anyway. that time i was swatting at a cluster fly that was buzzing around inside the car, bouncing off my forehead, and being a general pain in the ass. ("what is a cluster fly?" you ask?) this is a funny story, actually. so my (now) ex-husband, rex, and i were in our cute little red jeep cherokee (not to be confused with the grand cherokee), with our dog perry. i was driving. it was a bright, sunny day, and we were on the dirt road where we lived. our house was located on mountain road just north of church road in monkton, vermont; and we were about a mile and a half north of there. so i grabbed a map or a brochure or something from the center console of the jeep, and started swatting at the fly. suddenly i noticed that branches were hitting the windshield on my side of the car. oh no! i pulled the wheel to the right. oh no! too hard! we started fish-tailing. i tried to correct, to no avail, and we went nose first into a shallow ditch on the right side of the road. we weren't going that fast, but it was fast enough that...we did a sort of slow-mo rollover, *chunk* onto the driver's side door and then *chunk* onto the roof. so there we were, hanging upside down, our seatbelts holding us firmly in our seats (we were both quite impressed by that, btw), and i went a little bit hysterical, pounding the steering wheel, pounding my own head, telling everyone who could hear me how fucking stupid i was. then i remembered that perry was with us, in the back, with no seatbelt. shit. i turned around slowly, afraid to look. but there he was, perfectly fine, standing on the ceiling that was now the floor in his "igor" pose (that's when he would stand on all 4's with his head held out horizontally but lower than his shoulder blades, and look up at you). his ears were pricked forward and he was just staring at me like...."what the FUCK??? was THAT???" LOL. god, he was such a great dog. i miss him so.......

anyway, those are my 2 accidents. but i'm an aquarius, so apparently you shouldn't get into a car with me.

LOL. and guess what my ex-husband's sign is? he's a leo. i can't think of any accidents that he's been in.
