running and writing log
i didn't run this morning, and as of right now (4:30pm) i don't plan to, but i might change my mind. see, i walked about 4-1/2 miles today, in the soaking rain (in my schmancy purple patagonia raincoat, but still...), up to super jock-n-jill on green lake to buy a new pair of running shoes. the old ones were telling me they were about done-for, and today was my best shot at buying some new ones, so there you have it. i'm really happy with the ones i got--asics GT-2120's. this is their workhorse, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" stability shoe that they've been manufacturing for a looooooong time, increasing the model number by 10 every year to indicate that they have tweaked the design somehow. i have worn these shoes for years, off and on but mostly on. every time i try something else (the pair i'm currently replacing is an adidas shoe), i come back to this one. it just works for me: it has the right balance of cushion and stability, and it fits my foot like a glove, both because it comes in a AA width and because it's shaped right for my foot.
anyway, i thought it was a mile or less from my house to the store. shoulda checked the address before i left--it's way up by 72nd street, which is more like 2-1/4 miles (according to mapquest), or about 4-1/2 miles round trip. that's not the same thing as running 4-1/2 miles, but it chewed up so much clock-time and i got so wet in the rain that i'm not sure i'll be up for an actual run before full dark.
aside from my shoe-buying adventure, i've been writing my little ass off today. my prospectus draft is shaping up nicely. i'm optimistic about finally getting it defended this quarter...at which point i can start writing the real thing.
