period

i took an extra rest day from running this morning. i generally don't run on the first day of my period. it was one thing when i was on the pill, but now that i'm off it i bleed much more heavily on the first day, and experience significant cramping. the whole thing makes me feel deeply earthbound. by that i mean both heavier, or more influenced by gravity than usual; and mortal, or, literally, bound for the earth. someday. not today or anything.

please don't mistake this for complaining. i don't have PMS to speak of--a little bit of mood swinginess, maybe, and an inexplicably strong desire to eat chocolate ice cream, but none of the physical symptoms of PMS that many women have to deal with. the only uncomfortable PMS symptom i experience--and this is really, really weird--is in my teeth of all places. my upper left molars get extremely sensitive in the 3-4 days leading up to my period, such that running over them with my sonicare practically sends me through the ceiling. but this morning i sonicared them to my heart's content, and i experienced nothing more than a slight twinge. by tonight they'll be fine.

as for the rest, the emotional swings and feeling earthbound, i actually quite like it. really. perhaps i'll explain that someday...but for now, i have to get to school.

ohhh you poor thing!! I know the one thing that helps when I have cramps and heavy days is to take evening primrose oil tablets. They really work for me.

never tried evening primrose. maybe i should. do you only take it when you're feeling cramp-y or do you have to take it before the cramps start? do you happen to know what the active ingredient is?

you take it when the cramps start...it makes them go away for me...the active ingredient is Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), which is meant to help with symptoms associated with your period...

if that doesn't work,I heard that doing pilates helps too...
