damn

i am obsessed with david bowie's "starman." i can't stop playing it, over and over. it is a work of pop music genius.

i have it on a greatest hits collection (best of david bowie, 1969-1974). [livejournal.com profile] glaucon tells me the rest of the ziggy stardust album is also that good. i know i like a bunch of the other songs, but i haven't heard the whole album. i'll be buying that this weekend, i think.

Weird: I was listening to "Rocket Man" on constant repeat yesterday.

The version by Seu Jorge (from "The Life Aquatic...") has been in my head of late. It makes me think shimmery seaside thoughts.

i felt that way about Ashes to Ashes for awhile. over and over, ashes to ashes, funk to funky/we know major tom's a junky/strung out on heaven's high/hitting an all time low...

you can rip my copy of Ziggy Stardust if we can get together, but it's totally worth owning. it's got two of my favorite Bowie tracks (John, I'm Only Dancing and Suffragette City. oh, and Velvet Goldmine is saucy and good. hell, maybe you should just buy the record :)

yes, i love all of thse songs too. have you seen the movie velvet goldmine? [livejournal.com profile] glaucon and i watched it recently. his thesis--and i think i agree--is that it has the same basic plot as citizen kane. (we actually rented those two films at the same time, both because i had never seen either one of them and it was high time i saw CK, and because we wanted to test the thesis.)

that's actually [livejournal.com profile] fossefox's thesis.

I found it dubious when she first presented it to me, but after watching them back to back, I came to agree with her.

I finally got Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane last week, and I have the Ziggy concert video out from SPL (https://catalog.spl.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?session=11727GS9443W4.774&profile=dial&source=~!horizon&view=subscriptionsummary&uri=full=3100001~!2285135~!2&ri=1&aspect=subtab14&menu=search&ipp=20&spp=20&staffonly=&term=Ziggy+Stardust&index=.GW&uindex=&aspect=subtab14&menu=search&ri=1) right now. (I saw this back in the '80s and didn't know what to make of it; now it seems like genius.)
