the blahs

i've had the blahs for 2-3 days now. a little blue, a little lackluster, a little low on energy.
teaching: blah
weather: blah
self-confidence: blah
everything else except maybe one or two things: blah

whence and wherefore? i have no firm explanation. perhaps it's the post-holiday, post-new year, pre-birthday blahs. it doesn't seem to be identical with the impending global doom vibe i wrote about the other day. this is more personal and local. i want something *fun* to happen, and i'm getting to the point where i'm going to start instigating mischief just to stir up the sediment a little.

what do you do, to chase away the blahs?

Ohh i know what u mean about the blahs...its the worst feeling..its like your running in one place and never going anywhere...for me the best thing to do is to do something different, something spontaneous and stupid to make me feel alive again...sometimes just putting music up on high and breaking out with my crappy 80's dance moves and singing like a fool is enough...other than that i usually garden when i feel this way, because its something that uses up my pent up energy, and makes me feel like i'm being constructive...

I think maybe its new years that is making you feel this way...ever since then the whole world and life seems blah...maybe its the thought that we have a whole year to get through that's depressing us...i dont know...but i think you should do something fun...like meet up with your closest friends and spend the day together doing things on the spur of the moment, or go shopping and buy something you have been waiting ages to get (I'm not being materialistic, but sometimes having something new which interests you can divert your attention away from other things)...

ohhhh, that is a great idea. as of right now i have no plans for friday evening. perhaps i will venture out to some of my favorite shops. ;-) hmm, a haircut might work too.

Take trip out to Ellensburg for tea and time out? ^_^

[identity profile] marina-82.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
or get out those funky 80's legwarmers...hehehe

[identity profile] arguchik.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
heh--i didn't even have those funky 80's legwarmers in the 80's when i was a teenager... you know, right, that olivia newton john was almost singlehandedly responsible for starting that fad to begin with? those and the cheesy headbands worn around your forehead. "let's get physical."

sounds lovely--can't right this minute tho... but guess what i have in my freezer (and indeed, in my hot little fist) right now? MOCHI ICE CREAM!!! both green tea and mango flavor.

Man, I wish I could get Mochi Ice Cream in Ellensburg.

I recommend dancing! It's good excercise, it's good fun to get all gussied up and looking fancy, does wonders for the self esteem, ya might even meet someone interesting but don't count on that, it's the best for people watching, I even feel like it gives me some sense of community.

Or there's tequila.

...I've got something that'll chase away your 'blahs', baby, c'mon over here...

Seriously, I agree with the material goods and bad dancing ideas. In fact, I bought a rug and a new tube of mascara today just for that particular reason. It's a whole lot more vain than I would like to admit to being, but all the same...

[identity profile] arguchik.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i've been thinking again about that food processor i wrote about awhile back. but some new shoes would be nice too. or a cool skirt.

what kind of mascara do you use? i use clinique skin care stuff, so i always end up getting little tubes of free mascara when they do their gift with purchase thing. as a result, i have an assortment of mascaras, and no idea which one i like better (because i wear it so seldom). i am almost convinced that they are all the same....

[identity profile] arguchik.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
that sounds like a great idea--i was actually thinking of asking my friend A (not to be confused with your A, or my other friend A who i don't even think i've told you about. lol--she's C's competition.....) to go dancing this weekend. if A doesn't want to go......perhaps i'll go myself. i've never ever done that before. but where would i go??? maybe noc-noc. i know one of the bouncers.

[identity profile] crash66.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Noc noc on saturday nights rocks. Maybe you could invite C if A or A don't wanna go.

[identity profile] arguchik.livejournal.com 2006-01-12 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
C is in pennsylvania, alas. until monday.

[identity profile] crash66.livejournal.com 2006-01-12 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
ah oh i was thinking of the other C as in Cb.

Put on a song that you secretly love. This needs to be one of those songs that would embarrass you if it were connected with your name. Strip to bra and panties. Dance. (Of course, I never do this. And all that Shania Twain on my iTunes is just some weird downloading error. Er...errors.)

Going somewhere new also helps, even if it's just to sit quietly and people watch. People watching has a way of renewing a sense of wonder sometimes when everything else just seems blah.

[identity profile] arguchik.livejournal.com 2006-01-12 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
i'm not sure if i have any music that would embarrass me, but there's plenty i could go out and buy, that might fit the bill (fill the bill? fulfill the bill?). vanhalen, for example. it would have to be VH-II or Women and Children First, i think. lol. not exactly dancing music, but the bra and panties part is probably appropriate.

i like to do what i call "epic walking," too. for an "epic walk," i pack up some snacks and water, a raincoat, whatever i think i might need, and i just go out and walk the city. the goal is to get lost, then find my way back home. i really enjoyed doing this with my dog when he was still alive, because i could go at almost any hour of the day or night, and i never had to worry about anyone accosting me. i have to be more careful now, but i still do it...just haven't had time for such a thing this week. it chews up hours if you let it.
