running log

ran 2.7 or 2.8 this morning this morning, which puts me at about 11 for the week. not bad, given that i took an extra rest day this week and only ran 4 days instead of 5.

this week i'll start increasing mileage, so 2 of my 5 runs will be a half mile longer; the following week i'll make all 5 of them a half mile longer.

a few years ago i had bursitis in both of my shoulders, and my primary care doc (this was back in vermont, and i was still married, so it was probably 8 or 9 years ago) sent me to a physical therapist for it. the PT gave me these exercises, and they worked so well that within 3 or 4 weeks i was completely free of bursitis symptoms. i kept doing the exercises for another 2-3 months, but then i gradually lost interest in them; the bursitis pain never returned, so it seemed like they had done their thing and that i didn't need them anymore.

fast forward to a month or a month and a half ago: i started having pain in my right shoulder joint again. i tried just waiting for it to go away, but it was getting worse, so i busted out the exercises again. and now...not only has the proto-bursitis pain gone away, but the exercises seem to be taking care of the perpetual knot beneath my left shoulder blade, the chronic upper back and neck pain i'm always suffering, and the snap-crackly-ness of my spine. i guess muscle *does* stabilize the skeleton. go figure.

it's kind of like my vision and my headaches, and how the glasses fixed that stuff and made me realize how much discomfort and difficulty i had been living with just because i was used to it. now the same thing is happening with my spine. and it's a Very Good Thing.

p.s. i'm going to start posting my running log once per week, as a recap of that week, rather than every day. i'm getting self-conscious about taking up space in peoples' friends pages.

gah! your shoulder issue sounds painful. i hope it goes away soon! i've taken to walking 2-3 miles each day on a treadmill, and it makes me think of you. i do tendonitis treatment exercizes while i'm-a walkin'.

don't worry about taking up space, sister. it's your journal and i read everything you write anyway :)

good to hear the excercises are working.

You can take as much space as you like, that's why you are on people's friends list,so they can hear about what your up too. :)
