aftermath

either the barium sulfate they made me drink or the contrast dye they injected via IV for my CT scan yesterday really did a number on my intestines. it could be that they use nutra sweet as part of the flavoring in the barium sulfate suspension. nutra sweet and i do not get along. or...my body is just getting rid of these foreign substances the best way it knows how. bleah. i feel completely emptied out, and abdominally uncomfortable--enough so, that i'm cancelling the run i had planned for this morning. hopefully i'll be back to normal tomorrow.

p.s. wiki says that an abdominal CT scan doses you with 5.3 mSv of radiation, versus 0.2mSv for a chest X-ray. that seems like a lot to me...

aha, thank you. they list constipation as the more common side effect; i had the opposite. pretty bad abdominal cramping along with it, too, last night and this morning.

do i really need to have this done every single year? seems to me like every 2 years, or even every 3 years, would be sufficient.

i just love having a rare condition. nobody knows whether i'll develop PMP, how soon it might show up, or how fast it might develop into a "big problem."

ugh the barium the flavor the hurting ugh

i had to double dose because i processed the first bit before they could get me on the table.

by the time it was done i felt like i had drank concrete things weren't right for several days after.

yeah every year would not make me a happy camper.

so you had trouble with it too? i mean...last time i had the stuff i had my appendix removed right afterward, so it was kinda hard to tell if i was having problems because of the barium sulfate or because of the surgery.

they say that constipation is the more common side effect, because the stuff dehydrates you. my body, though...anything it doesn't like, it jettisons. LOL.

yeah it wasn't pretty for me either. To add to the fun boss was gone and i was in charge. One client demanded an order that was 25% of the company's gross sales and it had to go right at that time so i'm networking with company owners and vendors and clients and i'm a nice shade of purple and i feel like i ate chalk.

bleh this moment in medical history brought to you by medical journals exposed. Next week famous lypomas in history.
