well...i have officially had my first surgery. they took out my appendix friday night, at the UW medical center.
and no, in case you're wondering, they didn't do the laproscopic procedure. i had an "open appendectomy." the surgical chief resident told me it's cheaper, faster, and only minimally more scarring; also that it's what *he* would have, if he needed an appendectomy. so i agreed. just get it done...ya know? i don't wanna die.
there's nothing like having your abdomen sliced open to let you know that you're alive.
and i still don't like narcotics. narcotics + sharon = bad bad bad like puking your guts out, running into walls bad. i'll take plain tylenol, thanx.
so what would you do with 150 oxycodone tablets, if you were me? hehehe.
wanna see my scar? ;-)

We'll have to compare scars and storys when I visit. Remember to take it easy for quite awhile after the operation. I think I slept for a week after.
Glad your ok.

(Anonymous) 2006-07-09 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)the pain isn't as bad as i thought it would be, though, as long as i don't move around too much, or in ways that require much from my abdominal muscles. the sucky thing is that the breathing tube from the surgery really fucked up my throat, and it hurts to cough, so my throat is perpetually froggy.

I can't believe Italy won!!! YAY!!

but yeah, italy won. everyone else in the room with me was routing for france, so i had to go for the italians. plus, the italian soccer players are way cuter than the french ones. i'm all about the cute. :-)

i saw the head butt thing, though. i thought it was pretty funny, but yeah, it's hard to say what made him do that. it looked like their little conversation was pretty much over when he turned around and whammo!
lol. testosterone + adrenaline + rivalry dating back at least to WWI = sudden, inexplicable violence
i'm sure the papers will have something about it this week.

open appy stinks. Keep your pain level down, you'll heal faster! Take care, appendicitis is no fun at all, and neither is surgery! I'm glad you're doing better.

my nurse practitioner called today and said *she* thinks they did an open "appy" (as you and they called it) because they were worried about it rupturing. she said my white count was pretty high, and had gone up significantly from when they did the labs at her office, to when they did them again at the hospital a few hours later. plus the CT scan looked pretty bad. (i wouldn't know...i kept asking the docs to show it to me, and nobody ever did.) hmm. guess i was pretty sick. it's still very strange and a little worrisome to me that i didn't *feel* sicker. i definitely did thursday night, but i felt better on friday. the NP said i'd have felt a lot sicker soon, and also would have been in excruciating pain, if i hadn't gotten it taken care of quickly.

Those doctors, always hiding things from patients...
Glad to hear you're healing up. Any surgery is no fun, and the sore throat from getting a tube shoved down your throat is no fun either.
This too shall pass...
