well...i have officially had my first surgery. they took out my appendix friday night, at the UW medical center.

and no, in case you're wondering, they didn't do the laproscopic procedure. i had an "open appendectomy." the surgical chief resident told me it's cheaper, faster, and only minimally more scarring; also that it's what *he* would have, if he needed an appendectomy. so i agreed. just get it done...ya know? i don't wanna die.

there's nothing like having your abdomen sliced open to let you know that you're alive.

and i still don't like narcotics. narcotics + sharon = bad bad bad like puking your guts out, running into walls bad. i'll take plain tylenol, thanx.

so what would you do with 150 oxycodone tablets, if you were me? hehehe.

wanna see my scar? ;-)

hmm - sorry to hear about the appendix. Better sometimes to do it open, if its in danger of rupturing. That way, you can grab it a bit more gingerly. Ruptured stool in sterile abdominal cavity no good! Appendicitis actually classically doesn't make you feel totally crappy (unless it ruptures! Then you know in a hury!)

Those doctors, always hiding things from patients...

Glad to hear you're healing up. Any surgery is no fun, and the sore throat from getting a tube shoved down your throat is no fun either.
This too shall pass...

why do those doctors do that? hide things, i mean. do "they" (ahem, present company excepted) think "we" can't handle the truth?

i assure you, i can. the whole thing still makes me laugh... and i wasn't ever very scared. that was probably the endorphins, eh?
