yes, i agree--the openness and flexibility of skepticism (i'm more of an agnostic than a full-on atheist these days, because it's more open-ended to shrug and say "who knows? who could know?" than to shake my head and say "no way, doesn't exist." but yeah, too much of that open-endedness and you get all slippy-slidey, so it's good to establish a few things about oneself so you've got *something* when, as you say, "you're otherwise feeling lost." even those things, though...it's good to revisit them from time to time (maybe when you're *not* feeling lost?). tastes, ideas, feelings, and priorities change as you get older and accumulate more life experience, it's part of the process.
