READING: china mountain zhang by maureen f. mchugh. it's a fragmented, multiply-narrated novel--future earth/mars SF, published 1992. it won the james tiptree award, and was nominated for both the hugo and the nebula. i'm really enjoying it; i'm about 2/3 of the way through it. today i'm also going to be reading a paper written by one of my colleagues. he's in the dissertation writing collective i belong to; we'll be meeting to discuss this paper tomorrow.
WEARING: black stretchy capris and a big hooded sweatshirt that says "sonic boom records" with a sillhouette of the fremont rocket on the front. no shoes.
PLANNING: today i'm finishing up the last bit of upward bound grading (didn't quite finish yesterday), and then i'm going to do some writing. no plans yet for tonight. tomorrow after the diss collective meeting i'll be going to a birthday party for a friend's little boy who's turning 1 year old. it should be fun. it's being held in the belltown pea patch, thanks to seattle's populist poet cody walker (a UW alum and friend of my friend) who's currently in residence there (the hugo house has cabins). sunday i'll be working.
fuck! the construction crew across the street just started using a jackhammer. it must be huge! it is vibrating the floor of my apartment. if this keeps up i will have to relocate.
