sunday 5/6: 3 miles, late afternoon. felt a little sloggy but made it through ok.

monday 5/7: rested today--also stayed home from school.

tuesday 5/8: 4 miles, evening. had an odd, brief bout of breathlessness at the beginning. i realized i was running a bit faster than normal, and the start of my run is slightly uphill, so i slowed down and everything evened out. i gave my legs the reins...so i ran 4 miles despite only planning to run 3. i might run 4 again tomorrow...we'll see how everything feels.

wednesday 5/9: 4 miles, late afternoon. what possesses people? my route runs past a bar called sully's snow goose, on phinney (they have "fat tuesdays," on which you can get a fat tire for cheap, apparently). this guy who was sitting outdoors with a friend or two (i didn't get a good look) saw me coming, and started yelling at me like a coach. he said, "ok, i wanna see you pick up the pace now. doing good, doing good, keep it up." he was also clapping his hands. weird. i think the weirdest thing about it is that he sounded a lot like my high school track coach. for a brief moment i thought i had conjured him from memory... in other news, 4 separate drivers tried to kill me today. at first i was stunned, and mad, and then i realized that i was running right through the worst of the 5pm rush hour. my bad.

thursday 5/10: (rest day)

friday 5/11: 0 miles. :-( was hoping to run 3 or 4 today, but my sandal-induced blisters were killing me. they developed on wednesday (when i wore sandals for the first time this year), and i did nothing about them until this morning, so they are now crazy with inflammation. (of course...feet are dirty! and i know better.) one of them is on top of my right big toe joint (where my toe meets my instep)--i could probably run with that one, but the other one is on the back of my left heel, in the exact spot where my running shoe rubs against my achilles tendon. (sigh) i tried. i got all suited up, put my shoes on, and could barely walk because of the pain. so i took my shoes off, washed out the wounds with soap and water, poured on some hydrogen peroxide (yowch!), smeared on some neosporin (ahh), and slapped on a couple of band-aids. guess i'll be wearing backless shoes for the rest of the day...

saturday 5/12: 4 miles, morning. it was a good run. my heel blister nagged at me slightly, but the bandage seems to be doing the trick.

total mileage: 15 miles this week.

thoughts/plans: if i had run yesterday i would have totaled 19 miles this week. i'm going to aim for that next week--and maybe i'll make 20. it might be time to work out a training plan, start doing a variety of distances throughout the week as i increase my total weekly mileage. it might also be time to pick a marathon so i have a concrete, longer-term goal. i don't know...i have mixed feelings about road racing.
