READING: just finished flight by sherman alexie. it's uneven at best. not his best effort. digging back into incorporations by eva cherniavsky (prof at UW)--i started this one awhile ago but set it aside for no apparent reason. this morning i picked it back up again. i'm hoping to check out the golden compass books pretty soon. i borrowed them from
evernanon awhile back and promptly left them at her house, so this will involve either re-borrowing them or buying my own set (which i may want to do anyway). speaking of sets, i'm quite thrilled to have a complete set of the harry potter books (hardcover) on my shelf. otoh, i'm contemplating getting rid of my complete (also hardcover) set of robert jordan's WOT books. i've read them all...enjoyed the first few...was less than thrilled with the last few...and now he's apparently deathly ill and may not ever finish writing the thing. even if he does finish it, i might be done with it.
WEARING: jeans, white v-necked t-shirt. metallic aqua polish on my toenails, with no shoes to hide it from view.
PLANNING: going to the frye art museum this afternoon to see the willie cole exhibit. my roomie thinks i'll really like it, and also thinks it was a major coup for the frye to get him. i'm pretty excited about it. it's very cool to be living with a visual artist--she opens up my mind to a whole aspect of the world that i know very little about but have always wanted to investigate (there are too many things to investigate in this world...). i went to the olympus spa with L last night. it was very restorative. i soaked in the tubs, stayed longer in the steam room than i've ever managed before (not that long--only like 15 minutes--but usually i get lightheaded and dizzy after like 5 minutes), and then had the full body scrub. i'm using my barbie icon today because the scrub makes me feel like a brand new barbie still in the box--my skin is freakishly smooth, albeit only temporarily. would that i could afford such decadence weekly, or even monthly; as it is, i can't remember the last time i indulged in this sort of treat. i had a facial last spring (my first ever), but i wasn't happy with the results. my skin was out of whack for almost a week afterward. anyway, after the scrub, L and i went to the spa's restaurant for some amazing tofu stew. then we hung out in the dry hot rooms (i went into the sand and salt rooms, both at 150^F. i might be going to the capitol hill block party with
glaucon this evening. tomorrow is still up in the air. i have about 5 hours' worth of grading to do this weekend, so i'll probably hit that pretty hard tomorrow. and
glaucon and i are talking about going to roxy's for breakfast. perhaps we'll invite a crew to join us...
mmmm. i made some truly awesome coffee this morning. i used guatemalan sol beans from caffe vita (icon coffee, which is right around the corner from where i live, was just bought out by vita), and somehow hit the beans to H2O ratio just right.
glaucon agreed, it was delicious. i really like the fruitier, more balanced coffees in the summer. the smokier varieties are too heavy when it's warm and light outside, IMO.
das ist alles...
