got to GR yesterday morning, 9:30 local time. my sister barb picked me up at the airport and took me over to see my parents. i'm borrowing my dad's truck while i'm here. he no longer has a driver's license, but for some reason they won't get rid of the extra vehicle. they use it once a year, to take their leaves over to the city's yard waste disposal facility. my mom drives.

my dad didn't know me. my mom definitely did. just as i predicted. we all had a pleasant conversation, to the extent that you can have much of a conversation with two people who are both suffering from dementia. i was pretty beat from taking the red-eye, so i only stuck around for half an hour or so, and then headed to my sister jan's house (in hudsonville), which is where i'm staying for now. i took a serious nap, then showered and went out for dinner with both of my sisters. we had a really nice time.

i'm getting some good dog time here. my sister and her husband have a white german shepherd named luna. she's a really nice dog. very smart.

ok, i'm off to eat breakfast now.

so i predict you'll be at River Town Crossings mall (the new nice big one) within two days. that's about how long i last in GR before i need retail distraction.

eastown is more my speed. i'm not much of a mall/shopper girl. plus i'm a grad student = i have no ca$h.

but yes, that mall is convenient. it lies on the route from my sister's house in hudsonville to my parents' house in wyoming (they live near 44th and clyde park, if you know where that is).

totally, how funny. i always end up there in a daze eating a pretzel, not even buying anything. GREAT thrifting in your area, though!!

any valueland is bomb (mine's up on alpine but that's the other side of town from you). the salvation army and goodwill on division downtown are also GREAT. shit, hit up a phone book. last christmas i dropped $200 in a goodwill in an hour and it was THREE SUITCASES of stuff.
