went to see "walk the line" with my friend johnny (yes, really, that's his name) tonight. that's the kind of movie that'll put the hurt on, if any movie could. if you have a love life, june carter and johnny cash's story will put it to shame, and if you *don't* have a love life, well...it'll make you wish you did, so it could put it to shame. ;-)

the film had some annoying moments, some moments when it almost went bad. but overall i liked it. i agree with sarah vowell, this is perhaps the greatest love story of the 20th century. wow. [listen to sarah vowell's bit here: www.thislife.org, episode 247, "What Is This Thing?" (it's act 3), aired 9/19/03]

they could have found a better elvis. the guy who played jerry lee lewis was great (note the hair, and the leopard fur cuffs in his first scene), but the elvis sucked. not in a good way. and roy orbison...sorry, but i didn't even realize who that glasses-wearing guy was until the closing credits.

afterward, johnny and i closed down the deluxe. i had me one damn fine (strong!) margarita. and when he walked me home, there was frost on all the windshields.

Sounds like an interesting movie! Have you ever watched 'Love story' (1970)...I've heard that that is an all-time classic...another good one is 'The Graduate' with Dustin Hoffman...kinda shocking for an old movie, but I enjoyed it nevertheless...

you know, i have always meant to watch both of those movies, and i have never gotten around to it.

i really need to sign up for netflix, so i can set up a queue and add to it whenever someone makes a suggestion like this, before i forget the suggestion and find myself, yet again, watching some dumb thing (like...say...nicole kidman's "birth"--i wrote about that worthless piece of crap not too long ago...). down with bad movies!

That's why i love watching old movies...some of the black and whites are great to watch...My favourite director other than Hitchcock, is Joseph L. Mankawickz...you should watch "A Letter to Three Wives" (its film noir)... I adore that movie...I have been recording heaps of great classics, hoping that one day when I will put them all on DVD so that they wont get wreaked with time (the tape in videos tend to wear away with time and eventually snap)...i got my older sister to watch "A Letter to Three Wives" and she absolutely loved it...here's the review:
