READING: i just finished gibson's all tomorrow's parties, thus closing out the bridge trilogy. it was a good read; i'm still figuring out what i think about his work as a whole. i love neuromancer, and i find it intellectually interesting as well. his more recent stuff has interesting elements along with some stuff i'm not sure about. i think i need to read pattern recognition again sometime soon. yesterday i started altered carbon, by richard k. morgan. i'm only 15 pages in, and so far it's a catchy read. very violent. duane, the guy who runs the university bookstore's SF section, recommended morgan's most recent novel, thirteen, but it's still in hardcover and i don't want to shell out that kind of cash for an author i've never read before. anyway, i'm also reading incorporations: race, nation, and the body politics of capital by eva cherniavsky. i just started that this morning, so i'm not even done with the intro yet. cherniavsky is a professor in my department, and i've been meaning to read her book for awhile.
WEARING: black capri yoga pants and an orange t-shirt. no bra, no shoes. (no service?) i didn't have class today, and i'm doing laundry while working at home, so i'm all about being comfy. soaking up the rainy-day work time.
WATCHING: just finished the first disk of battlestar galactica's second season. i'm enjoying the series a lot--it's getting really interesting. i also saw the new harry potter movie last weekend--loved it. like its predecessors, it was a nice kick.
PLANNING: schmancy dinner at tilth, a new-ish restaurant in wallingford, to celebrate a friend's recent 40th birthday. sometime after that (depending on what she and i decide to do after dinner) i'll be heading to the university bookstore for the harry potter and the deathly hallows release party. i have pre-purchased 2 copies of the book, one for me and one for
glaucon, who is in the process of moving in with me. i don't have much planned for tomorrow...i'll see what transpires. on sunday i'll be helping
glaucon with the aforementioned moving, and in the evening i'll be meeting up with my upward bound colleagues for some movie watching and discussion.

Date: 2007-07-21 05:49 pm (UTC)Anywhoo, if you haven't read it already, I'd suggest SNOW CRASH by Neal Stephenson. Once you get past the goofy beginning and into the goofy middle, it's a pleasure. With what else you are reading, it seems in line with your tastes (except maybe, well, goofier).

Date: 2007-07-25 04:44 pm (UTC)When you finish season 2 (or 2 & 2.5 if you go by how the dvd sets are labeled), don't forget to go to www.scifi.com's BSG page and check out the 10 short webisodes that take place between season 2 & 3.
Though I certainly wouldn't recommend going there now as you would hit a million and a half spoilers ;-)
