i did something rash today. i reinstated my mountaineers membership. i used to be a member and let it lapse because i never ended up going on any of their hikes (at the time i still had a dog, and dogs are not allowed on the vast majority of their hikes). also, when i tried hooking up with other members for in-city activities, all of the people i met were on wildly different wavelengths than i; which is fine, it just made for awkward socializing, and no exchanges of info for future dog-friendly hikes.

well...fast forward to my present conditions:
--my dog has been dead for 4 years
--i have been sans car for almost 4 years
--i'm a flexcar member, but flexcar is damned expensive for full-day stuff (and fuhgeddabout overnights)
--i want to hike more
--few/none of my friends hike with any regularity
--thus, i have been out hiking maybe 6 or 7 times in the last 4 years
--i really, really want to hike more
--the mountaineers has an extensive network of scheduled hikes, for which members can sign up about a week in advance, on a first-come, first served basis--and they facilitate carpools
--i have all of the 10 essentials, complete with bootz and skillz
--as before, perhaps as always, i can think of few better ways to "waste" a weekend day, than getting my ass kicked by a mountain
--i miss the dirt and the trees, man!
