READING: just finished dan simmons' ilium. makes me wish i had read homer's iliad, and i happen to have a couple of those debit/gift card thingies for two different bookstores, so perhaps i'll invest me in some homer (and vergil while i'm at it, eh?) sometime soon. before diving into olympos, perhaps? it might be advisable. anyway, work-wise, i just started bruno latour's science in action today, and i'm also planning to dive into a nexus of work on gilles deleuze and felix guattari, including some stuff by elizabeth grosz. this is by way of refreshing my knowledge and thinking about posthumanism. interestingly, so-called "posthumans" figure in the aforementioned two novels by simmons, though ilium is not specific about exactly what the posthumans are (or were--the only physical manifestations of posthumans we encounter in ilium are dead females in an asteroid-based city orbiting earth). hopefully olympos will go into more detail.
WEARING: nothing special at the moment. jeans. my usual knitwear on top (today it's a long-sleeved black t-shirt under a purple cabled sweater--one of those ubiquitous j.crew sweaters, i'm afraid. everybody's doing it. on the subject of clothing...i'm planning to go through and purge my wardrobe pretty massively in the next week or so. i have too much crap in my closet and in my dresser, and i want to cut it way back. also i need some new pants--my two older pairs of jeans have many thin spots that have developed into holes in places. i have only bought one pair of jeans in the last...2 years, so maybe it's time.
PLANNING: i've been leaning toward the non-social for tonight, but i'm starting to feel more venturesome as morning fades to afternoon. tomorrow i'm baking a pie and perhaps also heading to the friends of the public library book sale, which is happening out at sand point tomorrow and sunday. tomorrow evening
glaucon and i are going to hang out with
malafrena and
rojonoir--very much looking forward to meeting them F2F. sunday is wide open still. i will probably want to do some housework--my bedroom is a pit! i haven't properly unpacked from my 3 (count 'em!) recent overnight jaunts: to michigan, to west seattle, and to portland; and i also recently excavated all of the woolen items out of my closet. i have two half-gutted pieces of luggage, sundry textile items, and several pairs of shoes strewn about my room, and my desk is piled with random books, papers, laptop cases, an old newspaper, and an empty nalgene bottle, among other things.
LET THERE BE ORDER!
