hair farming

on...march 1, 2006, about a month after i turned 40, i cut my hair off short-short. i had been wearing it somewhere between chin- and shoulder-length for about 7 years, at that point. my reasons were two: a) i had been bleaching it white-blond for a few months, and i was sick of touching up the roots--expensive, smelly, itchy, time-consuming, and my hair was F-R-I-E-D!; b) i was curious to see what my natural hair color looks like, whether or not i had started going gray, etc. well, i kept it short for several months, and last fall i decided to grow it out again. i was planning to document the growth by taking monthly or bimonthly pictures, but as you can see, i didn't do so well at that. anyway, i think the rudest awakening i've had since cutting off my hair--and all the while i've been growing it out--is this: dude, i'm not a blond anymore! seriously, i was a towhead as a child, stayed blond all through my teens and twenties...and i still thought of myself as a blond even before i bleached my hair out, but...i'm just not anymore. it's so traumatic! here's what i got:

and here it is today, still 100% natural, trimmed myself about a week ago with my trusty razor blade comb (i may never get a professional haircut again):



so...do ya think i should keep it about this length? grow it longer? chop it short again (or even shave it off)? (full disclosure: that last question is just for show--i won't actually be cutting my hair that short again any time soon. if that was gonna be your reply...sorry!) as for coloring it...nah, i'm done with that. it was fun for a little while but now it'll just have to stay blond...no...brown (til it goes gray, which it hasn't yet). darn!

Wow -- you look great! I hope your brain is doing as well as you look (it is from the looks of your journal entries) -- I hope your papers and work are treating you well still.

thanks, sweetie! i'm doing ok...hope you are too. sounds like your classes are going ok this quarter (semester?) anyway, now that the dull one you described has gotten a bit more interesting.
