i have a question about posting photos online. i have just been using LJ's gallery feature, and it works fine for the pics i want to post in my LJ blog. however, i also have a free flickr account that i am essentially not using because it seems kind of limited/ing. has anyone out there upgraded to a flickr "pro" account ($24.99/annum)? do you like it? what do you like/dislike about it? is it worth the cash? do you use some other online photo tool that you prefer to flickr? is there a better free service out there?

just weighing options. i'm starting to make more use of my digital camera, and i'd like to make some of the photos i take available for friends and family to view.

We use Flickr and pay the annual fee. At the time we started, the big bonus with them was that uploading a lot of pictures in a batch is easy - they have a tool you run where you just drag pictures and drop them onto the tool and it does the rest. I wish they had an easier way to add lots of tags to lots of pictures, where the tags change picture by picture but are from a small set of possible tags. That's the most tedious part. Also, I trust them slightly more paying for it than if it were free - we have all sorts of backups, of course, but it would be horribly tedious if our photo collection just disappeared one day or if they switched to some obnoxious ad-based revenue model. The worst part would be losing all the tags.

hmm. the tags issue didn't even occur to me. i'll have to check out that aspect of flicker, see what it feels like to use it. thanks for the head's up.

my boutell.com web space has essentially limitless bandwidth and storage space and you could store your stuff in my directory there at no cost.

you could also register a domain name of your own (arguchik.com?) for less than $10 a year and I could host it under my b.com account again at no cost to you - then you could simply say "see my website for photos" or something.

this sounds cool too, though i like the interface of sites like flickr. if i did my own website, i'd have to figure that stuff out myself, which interests me...but seems likely to be too time-consuming. i dunno. let's talk about it more, so i can ask questions and stuff.
