I have looked into the bunched fabric issue, actually--I think it's happening because the sweater has a dropped shoulder construction (though you pick up the stitches and knit them down from the shoulders, rather than knitting the sleeves as separate pieces). I'm actually thinking of doing something really radical: instead of knitting it in the "true" gansey fashion, I might knit the thing with set-in sleeves (EZ and Barbara Walker both have instructions for doing seamless set-in sleeves).
