stark contrasts this weekend. circus/strip crowd last night, dressed like a tramp in mesh and steep-heeled boots. home late, sore feet, *tired*.
this afternoon...washed the glitter down the drain, put on some sensible sandals, and headed to sccc for a mayday march/rally for immigrant workers' rights. (that's mayday as in "international labor day," not the pagan holiday...) the usual labor crowd--restless and loud, not too bad of a turnout. i learned how to say "justice now!" in spanish. ("justicia ahore!") and i walked behind a guy whose communist flag kept brushing across my face. he was shouting for revolution and "el che" (my friend d. joked that the guy must have just watched "the motorcycle diaries"--lol). when we got downtown to westlake center, waving our signs at all the ogling consumers, i stuck around for a few and listened to some speeches--in spanish. didn't understand much but that's ok. it was inspiring just the same.
si se puede! happy mayday (whichever way you celebrate it)!
