can someone please explain to me why fried eggs work so nicely as a hangover remedy? i was even on the verge of craving bacon or sausage (yes, i'm still a vege, except for fish every now and then)... normally i eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, but there's something about a hangover that makes me want greasy, salty, protein-laden food, and i'm really curious to know *why*. just the thought of cereal made me want to puke, but thinking about the eggs (which i fried in butter and salted heavily--it's an old family recipe, lol) was enough to get my sleepy ass out of bed and to the stove, despite a mild case of the spins.

last night was super fun, as i'm sure you can surmise (hangovers don't come from nowhere). i went to a party with my friend L and met a bunch of uw law school students--L calls this crowd the "decrepit old law students" because they're all 30+. it was more fun than i've had in a really long time. i even met a guy i liked...which also hasn't happened in quite awhile. i wonder if he liked me? :-)

oh, i saw "brokeback mountain" at a matinee yesterday, too, with my friends R and T. i highly recommend it. it's a beautiful film, a love story that rings true, somehow (unlike most hollywood love stories, gay or straight), because the story just...unfolds. understated. no contrivances. the characters are complex, alive, believable. (sigh) i already want to see it again.

now i'm headed up to campus to get the portfolios i need to finish grading. then i'm going downtown to see a friend. but first i'm going to grab a slice of pizza, to dissipate the last remnants of my hangover.

happy saturday, everyone!
