I'm sad. [livejournal.com profile] glaucon and I just finished watching the last season of the Sopranos. I'm going to miss it. I'm still processing my deeper thoughts, but to paint a very broad picture of my opinion: this show is (was?) excellent television. HBO does some good shit, but this one is really good. One of my favorite things about it is that tension they maintain, between the "good" Tony you identify and sympathize with as a viewer, and the Tony who, on a dime, will beat someone to death--a close friend, in one instance. Dude strangles someone he recognizes as a rat in the witness protection program, while taking his daughter Meadow to check out prospective colleges. My favorite character on the show, though, has to be Silvio Dante. Christopher Moltisanti is a close second, but Sil is just...he's so over-the-top mobster, "wearing it," that he's actually believable.

[livejournal.com profile] glaucon tells me the actor (Steve Van Zandt) has a radio show that is really interesting. He described it to me, and I said, "I'll bet he's an Aquarius." Nope. His birthday is November 22, 1950. Scorpio, by the hairs on his ass.

READING: Grey, by Jon Armstrong. I'm also just getting into Field Notes from a Catastrophe by Elizabeth Kolbert. It was the "common book" at UW last fall, and I guess it's going to be again this fall. I'll be teaching a Research Writing class up at UW Bothell in the fall, and I'm thinking of building on the theme from the common book, so I'm reading it to explore the possibility.

WEARING: jeans, black slip-on shoes, a sexy black v-necked t-shirt. It's drapey, boob-hugging, with a sort of eyelet lace around the neckline.

PLANNING: going to the College Inn this evening. Tomorrow and/or Sunday there will be Shakespeare in West Seattle--Hamlet and/or Twelfth Night. I have a shit ton of work to do this weekend, mainly prepping for teaching on Monday. That's about it for now.

KNITTING: still working on my February Lady Sweater out of Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool. I started the yoke over again because I didn't like how it was turning out the first time. So far I like this attempt better.

Well, my computer's battery is threatening to die, so I should post before it shuts down on me.....
