looming departure

the date of my departure looms...only 2 weeks away now. i'm going to be working in cali for 10 weeks starting april 23rd. i'm also going to move out of my apartment (a friend who's moving here from vermont is going to take over my lease, and may end up keeping the apartment), which means the next 2 weeks will be FILLED with busy work, including: culling the crap that has accumulated over the last 2-1/2 years; purchasing luggage for the trip, and then deciding what goes with me and what stays behind; boxing up books, clothes, dishes, etc. to go into storage along with my furniture; and then finally cleaning the empty space for someone new. and can someone please tell me what to do with my mail while i'm gone? some of it i will need to get, like bills, which do need to be paid in a timely fashion after all. a friend suggested getting a p.o. box and having someone check it periodically, forward anything that looks important. would that work? maybe...

i'm a little apprehensive about being away for so long, worried that i will have trouble knitting back into my life when i get back, reconnecting with friends and more casual acquaintances. at the same time, when i get back it won't quite be "back" because i'll be moving into a new place, probably a new neighborhood, with new roommates (haven't had a roommate since fall of 2001, so this in itself will take some getting used to). i must confess, i'm also a little worried that i will love cali so much that i won't want to come back.

and then what'll i do?

WOW california sounds great!!! I wish I could come see it!! Why the big move for 10 weeks??...are u entering a new chapter in ure life, as in have a new job or do u just want to move onto something better?

no problem. i have a temporary job there, which will last 10 weeks. i'll be back in seattle after that.

heheh. except i'm going to be in san francisco, where they are getting torrential rains...mudslides...etc. i'm packing my rain coat.
