today, we in seattle are having one of those weather days where you have to stand in front of your closet in the morning and just *decide* whether you're going to lean toward looking good or staying warm and (more to the point) dry. my job is such that i have to be outside a lot, so i incline toward busting out the fleece, gore-tex, and some kind of athletic shoe and saying "fuck you" to the aesthetics of adorning the body. (haha, "who says my purple patagonia raincoat isn't beautiful or fashionable?")

otoh, i've been feeling rather unattractive lately anyway...what with my growing-out hair and a wardrobe that...hell, let's face it, on dry days i don't look that much better than a fleeced out seattle outdoorsy person anyway. so it bums me out, a little, to err so much on the side of functionality.

i've never had any fashion sense. every now and then, i seem to hit on an outfit or a look that mysteriously "works" (according to others who comment on my looking "nice" or "good" on a given day). but i never understand why or how, thus i continually default to solid colors, jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, black shoes.

blah blah blah. fuck it. i'm too busy to worry about this. where's that raincoat? bring on the torrential rains, and the gale force winds...

that's ridiculous.
I've never seen you looking anything other than beautiful.

feelings are often ridiculous.

solid colors look good on you.
you have a beautiful face and your clothes complement, rather than overpower it.

hair questions ... I'm debating getting my hair cut really short because I'm tired of messing with it. How much maintenance is it? Do you enjoy having short hair? why are you growing it out?

i *do* enjoy having short hair. it requires more regular trims, but it's super easy to style in the morning. i cut my hair short-short because i had been bleaching it and was tired of touching up the roots. also i didn't think it looked very good on me, but when i tried to dye chunks of it darker, the darker dye didn't hold on very well. i want to grow it back a little bit mainly because i like the way it feels, and i do prefer the way it looks on me. it wasn't all that long before (chin-length bob with layers), and i don't want to grow it any longer than that.

I'm right there with you on the fashion stuff! Occasionally I happen upon something that seems to work, and then I have this need to go out and find other items that are the same/similar things in different (solid) colors. I'm so picky about comfort -- I for the most part will not wear something that's not comfortable -- and that makes it even harder.

me too! i despise uncomfortable clothing. the only time i wear things like heels or hose is when i'm purposely dressing up for a particular occasion that demands it.

i also buy multiples of things i find that i like. in several colors.

goodness chica - don't you realize how incredibly hot you are? My roommate is still pining over you (just kidding). (he made me write that jk) (jk).

Can't quiet envision your hair growing-out-look. All I can think of is Milla Jovovich in 5th Element. . .

ooh, i love her hair in that movie. (now she's hot!)

unfortunately, mine is more like...vaguely hippie middle school music teacher who plays the autoharp. (that's from a friend of mine about, with whom i was joking around about how awful it is to grow out one's hair. i was wearing a big, cable-knit yellow sweater at the time, which added to the look...) the usual tricks for disguising the awkward patches, like scarves or headbands, don't work for me because they make me look like a pinhead. so i wear little barrettes instead.
