fucking amazon... i ordered 3 books from them yesterday, via 1-click. when i did the first one, i noticed that they still had my old shipping/billing address, so i corrected it. they are sending the first 2 books i ordered to my correct, current address, but for some fucking reason they shipped the 3rd book, by itself, to my old address on capitol hill.

WTF???

i have since gone into my account page and deleted every address listed for me except for my current address (muttermuttermuttertheirdatabasecanbitememuttermutter). i have also followed up with both their customer service department and the UPS customer service department. do you think this book will ever arrive at my current address?

Even worse: one time I mistakenly clicked on that one-click thing while I was at work -- I was buying a textbook on my lunch hour -- and the fuckers charged my UW corporate Visa. I guess it remembered my IP address and the card that I had used. But it got worse, because then I tried to log in to cancel the order, but I couldn't remember my password. The fuckers will let you BUY SOMETHING on a CREDIT CARD that they REMEMBER FOR YOU without needing to log in, but to do anything else you must. So I had to go through the whole rigamarole of having a new password emailed to me etc. before I could get in to cancel. Luckily I still could, because otherwise there would have been mega-badness. Those were some tense minutes.

evil corporate fuckers.

i am going to hell for choosing online convenience over shopping at a local, independently owned bookstore, i just know it...

Oh! Oh! Oh! http://www.powellsunion.com/

Powell's in Portland is independent and union, and if you go through that link, the workers get a cut. Easy easy to buy books from them online, but not too easy!
