or...should some names be off limits? ask sweden, i guess, which won't let a couple name their daughter metallica. yes, really. now, i'm not sure if i agree with this governmental intrusion or not. on the one hand, sure, name your kid whatever you want. on the other hand.....metallica??

in other news, i am highly annoyed (again). i dropped my computer a little while ago and bent the case even worse than it had been bent before. why apple made laptop cases out of fucking ALUMINUM, i will never understand. it's pretty, sure, but it's dumb. anyway, it seems to be working OK, but it no longer sits flat on a table. instead, it rocks back and forth as i type. that is gonna get old really, really quick. does anyone out there have a suggestion for surmounting this problem? because right about now i'm ready to chuck the thing in the trash on my way out of the library, and head over to the computer store to buy myself a new mac-book.

what i'm saying is, this might be the last straw for this machine... but i would feel a little ridiculous (i.e. a conspicuous consumer) junking it, because it does still work. otoh, it is hard to imagine not going insane while trying to write a dissertation on a machine that won't sit still. as if dissertation writing weren't crazy-making enough.

Put a towel (folded at least once, pref. double folded) underneath it.

Course, that means that you'll have to carry a towel around with you every time you take your 'puter anywhere... but I think it'll solve the problem, anyway.

good idea--i can just use the neoprene case i carry my computer around in (which, alas, did not protect it from getting bent).

little rubber sticky feet cushions should make the torqueyness go away you might get them at radio shack or some such place. Make sure you get cushions as the hard ones will only make it taller and wiggly.

I say name your kid metallica it'll build character and they can change it when they get old.

Aluminum dissipates heat better than plastic does ^_^ Cooling is a problem in laptops. You probably should just stop trying to throw your computer every time you use it anyway ^_-

yes...i suppose the whole heat dissipation thing is true. didn't they used to use titanium, though? why'd they switch to aluminum?

If you're looking to lose the 'puter and you don't think you can sell it, Interconnection (http://interconnection.org/) next to Gasworks would probably take your laptop. Sounds like it's new enough that they'd take it free of charge even. They are a good cause too. I just took a bunch of computers & computer stuff to them and they were very nice and extremely helpful...but a little difficult to locate.
