i have a couple of hours to breathe before my next thing. well, actually i only have a few minutes before i have to sit down and do a bunch of grading for a couple of hours before my next scheduled item.
i thought it might be time for another "things that made me happy today" list. once again, my disclaimer: this is not a gratitude journal. lol. i'm just saying that because the gratitude journal is an oprah thing, or it was several years ago when i had both the motive and the opportunity to watch oprah, which i don't anymore. another disclaimer: it's only 2pm, so i'm hoping this list is incomplete.
ok, so here goes:
1. the vegan buffet at flowers, and the fact that they had both beets and coconut milk kheer today.
2. the fact that i had lunch at flowers with my friend L.
3. the sky is blue today, and the mountain is out. *and* i had my sunglasses with me, so i can be outside without also being in pain.
4. exchanging text messages with
glaucon this morning.
5. my new backpack, which i started using last week sometime. my back already feels better, now that i'm not carrying my messenger bag anymore. i just wasn't following the two cardinal messenger bag rules for maintaining back health: a) don't carry too much weight; and b) switch shoulders regularly. yeah...i *always* packed too much in it, and i *always* carried it with the strap over my left shoulder and the bag behind my right hip.
hmm....trying to think of one more thing.....
6. oh yeah! there's this: pressure from a lefty student group, in the form of a petition which i signed last week, has made tully's, the current coffee seller on the UW campus, start offering fair trade coffee (it's in a specially marked carafe among the other, non-fair-trade carafes). the goal of the student group is to get tully's to offer *only* fair trade coffee on campus, and i hope that push is successful, but i also see this development as a step in that direction. potentially, anyway. or else i'm just naive.
