the career meme thing, which i've seen in several peoples' journals over the last couple of days. the only person who posted a link and instructions, though, was [livejournal.com profile] smegma17.

here are the instructions:
go to: http://www.careercruising.com/
type in: nycareers for username, and landmark for password
take the "career matchmakers" quizzy type deal
post your top 20 results.

here are my results: (with commentary)
1. Horse Trainer (hmm. not a bad idea. except i have rudimentary horsemanship skills, at best.)
2. Anthropologist (not sure what to say about this one. i'm a cultural studies scholar, so it's not far off the mark.)
3. Professor (good to know my first choice came up in the top 3. being a horse trainer would probably be more fun, though.)
4. Paleontologist (i love digging in the dirt, and i can think of nothing more exciting than finding things while digging in the dirt.)
5. Clergy (i probably wouldn't be the first agnotic/atheist clergyperson...)
6. Zookeeper (LOL--sure, why not?)
7. Veterinarian (this was my recurring answer to the whole "what i'm going to be when i grow up" question, when i was a kid. i still think i should have been a veterinarian.)
8. Historian (again, literary/cultural studies...similar field.)
9. Foreign Language Instructor (i'd need better skills with at least one other language, wouldn't i? beyond my second-year, ask for directions, paragraph-per-hour german speaking and reading skillz?)
10. ESL Teacher (see above)
11. Taxidermist ("i see dead things.")
12. Boilermaker (haHAAAAAAAAAAhahahahaahahaaaa!)
13. Welder (yeah. sure. like in flashdance.)
14. Animal Trainer (i have been an animal trainer, and i'm sure i will be again, as soon as i adopt my next dog.)
15. Pet Groomer (i'll groom my own pets, but nobody else's, thanks.)
16. Lobbyist (fuck that!)
17. Autobody Repairer (why specifically autobody repairer? that's probably the last kind of automotive work i'd want to do--i'd much rather work on engines.)
18. Technical Writer (bo-ring! but would probably pay the bills pretty well.)
19. Computer Trainer (again, i'd have to learn a few skillz first, right? but if i can learn it, i can teach it...)
20. Nursery / Greenhouse Grower (funny, i did greenhouse work as an undergrad; i was growing stuff for basic science research, though, not for retail horticultural purposes. i would love the work, though.)

interesting. curious to read results for other people.

I've seen other people do this meme, but I can't seem to log on. It says that they can't find the username in their database.
